Interview with the Artistic Director
Mustafa Erdoğan, Artistic Director of The Fire of Anatolia, shares his insights on the significance of "Troy" to both Turkey and the global community. "Troy holds immense historical value, and each character in its epic tale carries a captivating narrative," he enthuses.
"Our mission is to showcase this epic on its native soil for the first time. We are proud to proclaim that the Trojan civilization flourished in Çanakkale, Turkey. Our dance performance not only retells this story but also boasts the versatility of Turkish dance in narrating it," says Erdoğan.
Behind the Scenes: Authenticity and Artistry
Erdoğan emphasizes the intricate pre-production process that brings "Troy" to life. "Every show involves 300 artists wearing over 1,300 handcrafted costumes. We meticulously recreate the film captured during production, ensuring authenticity and immersion."
"Rehearsals are rigorous and open-ended. We wield genuine swords, executing realistic battle scenes. As a testament to our dedication, many of our dancers bear sword scars that remind us of the passion and intensity that goes into each performance," he reveals.
The Importance of Authenticity
Erdoğan highlights the importance of historical accuracy and cultural authenticity, achieved through collaboration with renowned advisors.
"Our historical advisors, archaeologist Nezih Başgelen and Professor Dr. Rüstem Aslan, provide invaluable guidance. Professor Aslan, the world's leading expert on Troy, reviews our designs and ensures our stage sets, reliefs, and imagery align with historical records," explains Erdoğan.
Global Impact and Promotion
The Fire of Anatolia's international tours have generated resounding accolades and left a global footprint. "The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with audiences raving about it being the most extraordinary Troy production they've ever witnessed," says Erdoğan.
"During our tours, we proudly display signs in city squares, announcing Troy's true location in Çanakkale, Turkey. This simultaneously promotes our show and raises awareness of Turkey's rich Trojan heritage, inspiring many to embark on journeys to experience its allure firsthand," he adds.
Upcoming Performances and Expansions
Erdoğan excitedly announces upcoming performances scheduled throughout Turkey in 2025. "The Fire of Anatolia will grace the stage in Antalya at the Aspendos Ancient Theater, with Troy performances on Fridays and our regular shows on Tuesdays," he says.
"We are thrilled to expand our reach by embarking on a U.S. tour. Troy will make its North American debut in 11 major cities, kicking off serious preparations for this momentous undertaking. Our performances in Turkey serve as rehearsals for this historic tour," concludes Erdoğan.
